The Bryan community is mourning the tragic death of Anthony Banda, an 18-year-old motorcyclist who lost his life in a crash involving an SUV on East State Highway 21 Thursday night. The fatal collision occurred around 9:50 p.m., according to the Bryan Police Department.
Investigators said the crash happened as an SUV traveling westbound on E. SH 21 entered the center turn lane to turn onto Wallis Road. At the same time, Anthony Banda was riding eastbound on a motorcycle and moved into the center turn lane to turn onto Crosswind Drive, where the motorcycle collided with the front of the SUV. Emergency responders arrived quickly, but Banda was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities confirmed the SUV driver sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a hospital for treatment. Police also stated that drugs and alcohol are not believed to have been factors in the collision, which remains under active investigation.
